Artwork
Created 8th October 2021 in the Yorkshire Dales in the north of England.
I love the idea that something can be both uniform and yet completely unique at the same time. Laying items out in straight, even lines enables me to see the intricate details of life. When the complexities of the world envelop me, I find comfort in these shades, tones and shapes. You can spend hours looking at this print and never take in all the details.
Colour scheme: I wanted each individual colour to shine with clarity and iridescent richness. This rainbow represents the colours I see in the rainy-sunny sky of the Yorkshire Dales and the incredible breadth of people I have had the privilege to love.
Process
Created with an artificially coloured, flavoured and sweetened breakfast cereal. I chose clear, hard, sunny artificial light positioned very high above the scene to capture small, tight shadows with clean, sharp edges.
I took hundreds of pictures in my quest for balance in this image, each time moving one or two pieces a millimetre, then checking again for balance. Tweezer nudge, snap, tweezer nudge, snap, tweezer nudge, snap, as day turned to night…
